Greetings from the Sunshine State!

Welcome to the Florida School Counselor Association's web page. Thank you for your interest in the only professional organization with the sole purpose of representing the Professional School Counselor in the state of Florida.

Our organization is driven by a five year plan, entering its fourth year, with goals that emphasize member services, professional development, public policy and advocacy, and information dissemination. While we hold true to our five year plan and approach the new millennium, we are faced with a number of contemporary issues that we must address. These include, but are certainly not limited to:

  • elimination of certified school counselor positions
  • counseling positions being filled by non-certified individuals
  • possible restructure/reorganization of our state branch (FCA)
  • increase organizational networking with other professional organizations
I encourage you to communicate with any of our officers or committee chairs. We would like to hear from you. I also encourage you to join our organization and bring a colleague with you. Our profession will only become stronger by involving all Professional School Counselors in the state. Information about membership application forms (the same one for both new and renewal) is available on our web site. Currently, all forms must be mailed (via U. S. Post Office) to FCA.

Also, plan on joining us in Orlando, November 12-15, for the annual FCA Conference. While you are there, I look forward to visiting with you at FSCA's first Town Hall Meeting on November 15th, following our Annual FSCA Award Luncheon.

Please feel free to contact me at anytime with questions, concerns or comments. Until I have the opportunity to visit with you, I wish you the very best.

Rich Downs, President
