Media Center

Hello, I'm Velda Jordan and welcome to the media center. In the media center the students learn how to utilize all the resources, such as: computers, books, atlases, dictionaries, encyclopedias, almanacs, magazines, newspapers,etc.

The beginning of the year, I train all students on the computerized checkout system (Circulation Plus by Follet). During orientation they learn the operations of the Library,such as: how many books they may check out and for what period of time. They also learn where and how to find different type of books, such as: fiction, non-fiction, reference, etc

Once orientation is completed, computer training starts. All student have the opportunity to learn both the IBM and Macintosh format. They are trained on the safety of computer operation, how to navigate through the available programs and to assist others in their class.

I'm a member of the technology committee, which assists the teachers, students, and staff with computer training, programming, clean-ups and operation. The technology committee is responsible for writing grants, ordering equipment and software, reviewing new technology literature, upkeep and inspection of all building/classroom computers, site license, individual and staff instruction on a "need to know" basis.
